Part 4: Enhancing Inclusion: Strategies for Community Mapping
Employment support professionals (ESPs) understand that the reasons for the lack of participation in the labor force can be complex for people living with disability. While ESPs also understand the positive impact that paid, community employment can have on the quality of life for people with disabilities, getting there can be challenging without a strategic approach. Too often the job search uses a “place and pray” approach to supporting people with disabilities find and get jobs. Unfortunately, this often leads to a mismatch between the person and the job, the results of which ESPs know all too well.
This webinar is intended to engage supported employment professionals in a deeper understanding of employment as a critical pathway to community inclusion. Using strength-based assessment and a person-centered approach, we will introduce a six-step approach to employment with a Framework for Planning© as a means for exploring, discovering, and surfacing community opportunities that will promote citizenship contribution through work.
Individuals participating in this webinar will learn:
- The importance of the intersection of person-centered job development and community networking
- Six distinct, yet inter-connected, steps that can lead to great job matches
- How to apply the Six Steps to Employment within a Framework for Planning© template/tool
- A basic understanding of the available “building blocks” of community mapping and how they can assist in the employment search and engagement
